Kazakhstan expects Pompeo will present US strategy on Central Asia during visit

The Kazakh Foreign Ministry expects that the US strategy for Central Asia will be presented during the visit of US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo to Nur Sultan in 2020. This was reported to the media on Tuesday by the Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Tileuberdi, TASS writes.

“We expect that the US strategy on Central Asia will be presented during the visit- this is the first time such a document has been adopted. It is about strengthening our bilateral relations, developing our strategic partnership further,” Tileuberdi said, answering the question about the agenda of the upcoming visit of Michael Pompeo.

Earlier, a source in the government told Kun.uz that Pompeo also plans to visit Uzbekistan to discuss pressing issues of bilateral cooperation.

The republic’s Foreign Ministry confirmed the news about the visit to Kun.uz correspondent but stated that the exact date is not yet known.

It should be recalled that in mid-December Trump administration announced plans to present Washington’s new strategy for Central Asia.
