Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to visit Uzbekistan in January, meet with President Mirziyoyev

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will visit Uzbekistan on January 12-13, 2020, FM Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on December 26, TASS reports.

“The Minister will be received by the President of Uzbekistan. Negotiations will be held with the Foreign Minister as well,” she said.

According to Zakharova, all aspects of bilateral political, trade-economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation are expected to be addressed at the planned talks. 

“Special attention during the meeting will be paid to the implementation of agreements reached on October 18, 2018, within the framework of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s official visit to Uzbekistan. The sides will also discuss events planned for 2020,” the Russian Foreign Ministry official said.

Zakharova noted that the two foreign ministries are expected to sign the program of cooperation for 2020-2021, which will coordinate approaches and activities in the multilateral and regional policy. “This cooperation is a reflection of the level of strategic partnership and alliance between Russia and Uzbekistan,” the diplomat added.

Zakharova also stated that Sergey Lavrov will deliver a lecture to teachers and students of the MGIMO Tashkent branch.
