CEC announces election date for Senate of Oliy Majlis

Joint meetings of deputies of the Jokargi Kenes of Karakalpakstan, regional, district and city representative authorities, at which members of the Senate of Oliy Majlis will be elected, are scheduled for January 16-17. This was announced at the CEC meeting.

It should be noted that election of the Senate members is held no later than a month after the election of deputies of the Jokargi Kenes of Karakalpakstan, regional, district and city Councils of people’s deputies.

Senators are elected in equal proportions – six people from the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regions and the city of Tashkent during joint meetings of the Jokargi Kenes, regional, district and city Councils of people’s deputies among the elected representatives.

Sixteen senators are appointed by the president among authoritative citizens, who have extensive practical experience and have especially proved themselves in science, art, literature, the production sphere, as well as in other areas of the state and society.
