Justice Ministry says Labor Code is adapted to the USSR economy
The current Labor Code of Uzbekistan is “adapted” to the economy of the former Soviet Union, Deputy Minister of Justice Rakhim Khakimov said, speaking at the international press club.
According to him, the Labor Code, adopted in 1995, does not meet today’s requirements.
“Our labor legislation is outdated and does not meet up-to-date requirements. We must admit that the current Labor Code is adapted to the economy of the former Soviet Union, it does not meet the requirements of the private sector,” he said.
Khakimov noted that the Code should be transparent and flexible. “If you look at the Labor Code of Western countries, there are conditions for a bilateral agreement, that is to say, an agreement between a manager and an employee,” he added.
It should be recalled that the Ministry of Employment and Labor Relations of Uzbekistan last year published for discussion a new draft version of the Labor Code, which should replace the current one.
