Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan consider creating border trade zones

The Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov held talks in a videoconference format with the Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov.

During the talks, the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation in trade-economic, investment, transport-logistics and cultural-humanitarian fields were discussed.

“The issues of creating cross-border trade zones on the Uzbek-Turkmen border, which could significantly increase the volume of trade, including through the supply of agricultural and household appliances, food products, construction materials, petrochemical products that are in demand on the markets of the two countries, were examined,” the MIFT press service said.

Prospects for investment and industrial cooperation in the areas of developing hydrocarbon deposits, the organization of joint production of agricultural machinery and building materials were noted.

The parties also discussed the possibilities for expanding cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere by organizing international conferences, forums and other events in two countries.

Based on the results of the negotiations, an agreement was reached to create a joint working group to promote and implement mutually beneficial projects and initiatives within the framework of the discussed areas.
