“By working with our partners in the Ministry of Health, we will improve the identification of this dangerous virus, reduce the number of cases and save lives in Uzbekistan,” said Ambassador Daniel Rosenblum.
It is noted that this is the first set of test tools donated by USAID. It consists of 60 boxes containing QIAGEN RNA reagents for 15,000 tests. Another 40 such type of boxes for 10,000 tests will arrive in Uzbekistan in a few weeks.
“On behalf of the Department of Health and the Sanitary-Epidemiological Welfare Agency, we thank the United States for the assistance. These reagents will help in the fight against coronavirus and improve the health of our people,” said the director of the agency Bakhodir Yusupaliyev.
For information, USAID is providing $3.9 million to Uzbekistan to fight the coronavirus. This assistance includes preparing laboratories for large-scale testing, preventing and controlling the spread of infection in health facilities, improving rapid measures against COVID-19, strengthening the infection management system, combating virus misinformation, and engaging communities to work together.
Since the outbreak of COVID-19, the U.S. government has allocated more than $1 billion for international aid to fight the pandemic.
