According to an official statement, ministries have created a list of women who had come to Kyrgyzstan to visit their relatives before the quarantine and had been unable to return to Uzbekistan. Women cross the border every day on the basis of this list.

The Foreign Ministries of the two countries had agreed that women would be placed in quarantine for 14 days before returning to Uzbekistan. However, due to the limited number of places at medical facilities, they will receive treatment turn by turn. The Embassy of Uzbekistan in Kyrgyzstan is responsible for compiling a list of women who wish to return home.

The first group of 50 women, who had been stuck in Kyrgyzstan because of the quarantine, had been sent to Uzbekistan on May 23.

It was previously reported that the Ombudsman, Tokon Mamitov, sent a letter to the Foreign Ministry of Kyrgyzstan on May 22 asking them to discuss with their Uzbek counterparts possible ways of solving the problems of these women.

“At the checkpoint “Dustlik” of the Kara-Su district, Osh region, due to the quarantine restrictions on the border crossing, more than 100 Kyrgyz citizens who are married to Uzbek men, cannot enter the territory of neither Kyrgyzstan nor Uzbekistan. In addition, since they have not yet acquired Uzbek citizenship, every two months they have to travel to Kyrgyzstan and then return to their husbands and children in Uzbekistan,” the Ombudsman’s letter said.
