The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan commented on the armed conflicts between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the deadliest since 2016.
“The Republic of Uzbekistan expresses serious concern about the conflicts on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border, which has led to several casualties.
Deterioration of the situation in the region could lead to further civilian casualties, disrupt important economic ties in the CIS and jeopardize regional security.
Uzbekistan supports the extreme tolerance of the parties and calls for political and diplomatic negotiations to stabilize the situation.
We extend condolences to the families of the victims,” the Ministry states in its report.
To remind, clashes between border forces of the two countries continue for three days since July 12 in the north-western Tovuz district of Azerbaijan, with both sides suffering casualties. The Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan accused Armenia of gross violation of the cease-fire agreement and of attacking the country’s artillery position.
On July 13, the fights broke out again. According to the Armenian Ministry of Defense, Azeri soldiers began their attack but were pushed back. According to Baku, Azerbaijani artillery, mortars and tanks destroyed Armenian outpost, destroyed military equipment and killed soldiers.
Among the victims from the Azerbaijani side, there was Major General Pulat Gashimov and Colonel Ilgar Mirzayev, who had been heroically killed in the clashes.
