Uzbekistan, UNAMA discuss providing full assistance to Afghanistan in launching intra-Afghan peace talks
Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev held talks with the Head of UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) Deborah Lyons, via videoconference.
According to the MFA press service, the sides discussed the efforts of Uzbekistan and UNAMA to resolve the Afghan crisis, as well as priority areas of cooperation in implementing various projects in the IRA.
Deborah Lyons highly appreciated President Mirziyoyev’s policy on peaceful resolution of the Afghan issue, as well as socio-economic reconstruction of Afghanistan. In particular, she expressed interest in projects for construction of railway tracks and new power lines in the IRA.
The importance of reducing the level of violence in Afghanistan as soon as possible in the context of the pandemic, as well as ensuring the key role of Afghan people in the political process, was stressed.
The parties exchanged views on providing full assistance to Afghanistan in launching intra-Afghan peace talks.
