Road Safety Department publishes indices on accidents
991 fatal accidents reported from January to August, 2020, which is 17 percent less than in the same period last year.
The press service of the Road Traffic Safety Department reported 3,596 road accidents in the period between January and August, which is 12.6 percent less than in the same period last year (4,116).
The number of accidents with fatal outcomes was 991 (1,196 in 2019). Injuries were recorded in 2,605 cases (2,920 in 2019).
There were 1,528 accidents involving pedestrians, 619 – involving children, 471 –cyclists, 108 – motorcyclists, 112 – unlicensed taxi drivers and 198 – unauthorized drivers.
In 28.4 percent of the accidents were caused by pedestrians crossing the streets at a wrong place, 17.1 percent – by not complying with the speed regulations, 13.1 percent – by cyclists riding on the roadway, 9.3 percent – by pedestrians suddenly emerging on the road, 7 percent – by wrong overtaking or driving into the oncoming lane; in 3.2 percent of cases drivers fell asleep at the wheel, while in 2.5 percent they were drunk.
Almost half, or 48.9 percent, of the accidents took place on inter-regional roads, 28.2 percent – on local roads and 22.9 percent – on international roads.
The highest number of accidents occurred in the Fergana region - 550 (in 2019 - 589), followed by the Tashkent region – 429 (586) and the city of Tashkent – 396 (452).
