Chief infectious disease specialist of Tashkent region remanded in custody
On September 14, the Tashkent regional court on criminal proceedings heard an appeal against Guljahon Yuldasheva, the chief infectious disease specialist of the Tashkent Regional Infectious Diseases Hospital, who was arrested on 8 September, to change the measure of restraint in custody.
At the court hearing which was attended by prosecutor Aziz Ismailov and Guljahon Yuldasheva’s lawyer Khushnid Akhrorov, Judge Dilshod Izzatov ruled that the measure of restraint imposed on the accused should be upheld.
After the trial, Guljahon Yuldasheva’s lawyer Khushnid Akhrorov told Kun.uz that he was dissatisfied with the judge’s ruling. In his view, detention is an inappropriate measure in this case, as the accused is a mother of 6 children.
It should be recalled that Guljahon Yuldasheva, a former chief physician of the Tashkent Regional Infectious Diseases Hospital, was detained on suspicion of embezzling 250.8 million soums from the state budget. She is also charged with causing the death of a person from COVID-19.
