Trial begins for police officers accused of torturing a young man to death in Andijan

On November 11, in the Andijan regional criminal court, a trial began for the police officers, who tortured a young man to death.

It should be recalled that on May 30 this year, a young man with various bodily injuries was brought to the Andijan branch of the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Medical Care. According to primary data, three officers of the criminal investigation department tortured him to death.

“They illegally detained the man and brought him to the DIA administrative building, and then they used torture. Huge damage was inflicted – both on his rights and on his health,” the press service of the supervisory agency said then.

As a result, the young man was taken from the Department of Internal Affairs to the Andijan branch of the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Medical Care. Unfortunately, he died on June 11.

As the press service of the Supreme Court reports, on November 11, in the Andijan regional criminal court, an open trial began to consider the case against the defendants D. Khamraliyev, K. Kadirov, E. Rayimjonov, F. Khusanboyev, P. Mamajonov and A. Turakulov.

The defendants are accused of committing crimes under Articles 104 (intentional grievous bodily harm), 206 (abuse of official powers), 227 (taking possession, destruction, damage or concealment of documents, stamps, seals, forms, state license plates of motor vehicles), 234 (unlawful arrest or detention) and 235 (use of torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment) of the Criminal Code.

At the end of June, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev criticized the leadership of the internal affairs bodies for the events in Chirakchi and Andijan.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defense and Security reported that police officers beat the young guy to death because of precious stones.

Director of the National Center for Human Rights Akmal Saidov stated that “the case is personally under his control.” He stressed that the trial will be open, the guilty will be punished.
