Uzbekistan may simplify conditions of stay for Tajikistani citizens
The governments of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan plan to supplement the agreement on mutual trips of citizens of both countries of March 9, 2018.
According to Asia-Plus, the draft protocol to this agreement, published on the legal information portal of the Ministry of Justice of Tajikistan, states that citizens of the two countries are exempted from registration and temporary registration within 10 working days from the moment of crossing the state border.
These amendments are expected to be ratified during the official visit of Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Tajikistan on June 10-11.
Currently, Tajik citizens who have arrived in Uzbekistan are required to register in local internal affairs bodies within three working days. If a citizen of Tajikistan has relatives in Uzbekistan, he can register at the address of the relative’s residence, paying a $5 fee.
Also, Tajik citizens can be registered as tourists at the places of residence in the hotel paying the same amount of state fee – $5.
At a forum of business circles of the two countries in Dushanbe on June 1, the ambassador of Uzbekistan, Ergash Shoismatov, noted that “about 1 million people, both in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, have family ties.”
