Uzbekistan starts selling uranium to the USA at cheaper rates
Despite this, volumes are still high compared to previous years, Spot reports.
Uzbekistan began to sell less uranium to the United States, follows from the data of the US Energy Information Agency (EIA).
In 2020, the country supplied 3.9 million pounds of uranium equivalent to U3O8e to the United States, while in 2019 it amounted to 4.3 million. Despite this, volumes are still high compared to previous years because there was a jump in 2019:
Last year, the Uzbek uranium supplied to the States fell significantly – the average price per pound was $35.9 (from 2016 to 2019 it was at least $37.8). However, this affected almost everyone – Russia began to supply for $25.7 (was $27.3), Kazakhstan – for $33.3 (was $35.7).
In 2018, the United States discussed the issue of recognizing uranium supplies from other countries as a threat, but in the end this did not happen. Then Uzbekistan was also among the main suppliers.
