Uzbekistan and NATO discuss prospects for cooperation in emergency prevention

The mission of Uzbekistan to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) organized online negotiations with the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the deputy head of the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Center (EADRCC) Wim Vanhamme, reports  Dunyo.

The aim is to discuss the prospects of cooperation and study European experience in disaster prevention.

Uzbek side was represented by Uzbek diplomats and head of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Emergencies Jakhongir Isayev.

EADRCC representatives expressed readiness to continue cooperation with the Uzbekistan. In their opinion, one of the first events, in which the representatives of the Ministry of Emergencies of Uzbekistan can participate, is the Command and Staff Exercises organized by EADRCC on September 20-23 in Ohrid (North Macedonia).

It was noted that along with the exercises from September 20 to 21, a symposium for VIP-participants will be organized on “Military-civilian support of a civil emergency” and “Lessons on response to natural disasters in the context of COVID-19” topics.

It is expected that the NATO Deputy Secretary General and the Deputy Prime Minister of North Macedonia will take part in the opening ceremony of the exercises.

The parties also discussed the development and signing of a draft Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Emergencies and the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination of NATO.
