Nuriddin Ismailov meets with newly elected President of Iran

Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Nuriddin Ismailov met with the newly elected President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ebrahim Raisi in Tehran on 4 August. The Legislative Chamber’s website reports.

During the meeting, the Iranian leader thanked the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev for his congratulations on his election victory.

He also noted that Iranian officials support Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s initiatives to further strengthen good-neighborly relations with the countries of the region based on the principles of mutual respect, friendship and brotherhood, as well as regional security.

According to the President Raisi, the reforms initiated by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev have strengthened the role of parliament in the country’s social life.

“In the future, inter-parliamentary relations will play an important role in further expanding and strengthening cooperation between the two countries in trade-economic, investment and cultural-humanitarian spheres,” he said.

The sides discussed issues of further development of Uzbek-Iranian relations, bringing economic cooperation to the level of existing potential of the parties, in particular, bringing inter-parliamentary relations to a new level.

It should be recalled that Iran held presidential elections on June 18 this year. Ebrahim Raisi won the election with 62% of the vote, with a turnout of 48.8%. He took office on August 3. His inauguration will take place on August 5.
