Uzbekistan backs US–Iran accord to restore regional stability and security
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan has issued a statement welcoming the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran, characterizing the agreement as a major diplomatic breakthrough toward de-escalation and the restoration of regional security and stability within the current complex international climate.
In its official release, the foreign ministry commended the political will and foresight demonstrated by the leadership of both the United States and Iran at a decisive juncture. The ministry noted that the newly reached understanding establishes a foundation for a long-awaited peaceful settlement that has been eagerly anticipated by the broader international community.
The statement also highly praised the significant diplomatic contributions made by Pakistan and Qatar, alongside the constructive efforts of Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and other regional partners who helped cultivate the necessary conditions to achieve this critical understanding.
Looking ahead, Uzbekistan expressed its anticipation of a constructive continuation of negotiations and their effective implementation. The foreign ministry reiterated its stance that resolving conflicts through diplomatic channels – grounded firmly in the principles of international law, mutual respect, and the consideration of the interests of all parties – remains the essential requirement for ensuring lasting global peace and security.
The diplomatic breakthrough follows recent developments in the region, where the United States lifted operational restrictions on the passage of maritime vessels through the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with a directive issued by President Donald Trump.
