USA to provide $10 million worth of textbooks to Uzbekistan
United States Agency for International Development (USAID) announced on the acquisition of licenses for two series of textbooks developed by international publishing houses for the Ministry of Public Education of Uzbekistan.
$10 million worth of package consists of textbooks and a teacher’s manual for computer science and information technology for grades 5-11, as well as textbooks, workbooks and a teacher’s manual for English as a foreign language for grades 1-11.
Textbooks adapted to the context of Uzbekistan will be tested in 200 schools across the country in the 2021-2022 academic year. The distribution of these textbooks throughout the republic among more than 6.5 million students will begin in the 2022-2023 academic year.
In addition to the textbooks, USAID passed on educational standards in Native Language and Mathematics (Grades 1-4), and Computer Science and Information Technology (Grades 5-11), which were developed under the USAID-funded “Programs to improve education in Uzbekistan” in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Education. These fundamental documents of high quality, which are as close as possible to international standards, will help the Ministry of Public Education in modernizing the country’s education system.
“We are grateful to the people and government of the United States, as well as USAID, for their continued support and assistance in many aspects of our efforts to transform the education sector. As you well know, over the past few years, under the leadership of our President, the government has been able to achieve significant development in the field of education. As we live in a fast-paced world with rapidly changing technology, we have focused our attention on mass teaching our children English and IT skills. I am confident that with the help of our partners, we will give our children opportunities for development in the modern world and the full disclosure of their potential,” Sherzod Shermatov, Minister of Public Education, said.
