CEC registers three observers and 36 journalists
The Central Election Commission also considered the issue of creating expert groups to check the signature lists of candidates.
At a regular meeting of the Central Election Commission (CEC), the issue of accreditation of observers from international organizations and the media was considered.
During the meeting, members of the commission registered 36 representatives of local media. To date, 766 Uzbek and 48 foreign media outlets have been accredited for elections.
In addition, three international observers from the OSCE/ODIHR were registered at the meeting.
It should be reminded that representatives from political parties, self-government bodies, other states and international organizations can receive the mandate of an observer in the elections. The application must be submitted no later than ten days before the election, and the CEC must consider the application and issue a mandate within five days.
The CEC members also considered the issue of creating expert groups to check the signature lists of candidates. The CEC is given five days to check the subscription lists. One needs to check at least 15% of signatures and information about voters. For these purposes, the commission can create an expert group, which will include specialists from law enforcement agencies, the judiciary, civil society institutions, and representatives of political parties.
Presidential elections in Uzbekistan will be held on October 24, 2021. The election campaign started on 23 July. All five registered parties have already nominated their candidates for the presidency.
