Mufti of Tatarstan invited as a guest to the election of Uzbekistan’s mufti
On October 1, mufti of Tatarstan Kamil Samigullin met with Consul General of Uzbekistan, Fakhriddin Nasriyev, in Kazan. The press service of the Religious Board of Muslims of Tatarstan reported.
Mufti Kamil stressed that the death of former Uzbek mufti Usmonkhon Alimov was a great loss. At the same time, Fakhriddin Nasriyev talked about continuing cooperation and invited him to take part in the upcoming election of mufti in Uzbekistan as a guest of honor.
Earlier, the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan provided information on the procedure for election to the mufti post.
Reportedly, in accordance with the relevant paragraph of the organization’s Charter, the chairman of the religious body – the mufti, is elected at a meeting of the Council of Ulama for a term of 5 years. The person elected to this position must be a citizen of the Republic of Uzbekistan, have a higher religious education, have worked in the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan for at least 10 years, and have gained a reputation and trust among scholars and the people.
