“The issue of recognizing the Taliban government is on the agenda. We will discuss it with our allies and partners. But the conditions set for the Taliban are so serious that it is very dangerous to respond to them separately. We will not turn a blind eye to the continuation of terrorist activities or the insufficient struggle of the Taliban against Al-Qaeda, ISIS, or ISIS-Khorasan and other terrorist groups and organizations and, therefore, cannot recognize the Taliban yet. There should be clear security guarantees and compliance with all the requirements expressed,” he said during a press conference.
Kamilov emphasized that “Uzbekistan will work together with the international community, friends in the Commonwealth of Independent States, Russia.”
“Yesterday, Russian President Vladimir Putin made a clear statement concerning the issue of recognition and generally expressed his opinion on the Afghan problem as a whole. We support these assessments and, as I said, the Moscow format is a reliable basis for serious bilateral cooperation on Afghan issues,” he concluded.
