Uzbekistan to further develop telecommunications infrastructure

The government has adopted a resolution “On measures to further develop the telecommunications infrastructure of Uzbekistan”.

Targets for the development of telecommunications infrastructure in Uzbekistan in 2022-2024, as well as a plan to provide mobile coverage of highways of international and national importance were approved.

Accordingly, by 2023, the capacity of the international data transmission channel will be increased by 3.5 times, the data transmission network will be expanded due to the construction of 150,000 km of fiber-optic communication lines. Fiber-optic communication lines will be delivered to all settlements, and at least 80% of households will be provided with broadband wired Internet access.

By the end of 2021, all police stations, mahalla buildings, penitentiary institutions, rooms of preventive inspectors of law enforcement agencies, public education institutions, state archives and organizations will have broadband Internet access.

According to the resolution, international backbone channels will be established on the routes “Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan”, “Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan-China” and “Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Turkey” through the existing border checkpoints. Measures will be taken in the People’s Republic of China to establish new connection and mutual Internet traffic exchange points.

From January 1, 2022, when designing and building broadband Internet access networks, the followings will be considered: connecting administrative buildings and apartment buildings with a capacity of at least 1 Gbit/s; educational institutions, healthcare facilities and other government agencies with a capacity of at least 100 Mbit/s.
