Amazon Leo satellite internet network to launch across Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan’s remote and underserved regions are set to receive high-speed satellite internet access following a major agreement between American broadband venture Amazon Leo and the domestic joint venture UZ–SAT LLC.
The deal, announced by the Ministry of Digital Technologies, was formalized during the Fifth Tashkent International Investment Forum.
The satellite network is specifically designed to deliver low-latency, high-speed connectivity. This capability will benefit urban residents as well as populations living in mountainous, desert, and other geographically isolated territories where traditional terrestrial telecommunications infrastructure is either severely limited or entirely non-existent.
Subscribers will be able to access the network using specialized customer terminals tailored for different deployment scales. These include the compact Amazon Leo Nano, the standard Amazon Leo Pro, and the commercial-grade Amazon Leo Ultra antennas. The equipment is designed to establish stable, high-throughput links from almost any location in the country.
The network operations rely on a massive low Earth orbit constellation planned to exceed 3,000 satellites. These orbiters communicate with each other using advanced in-space optical inter-satellite links, which form a comprehensive mesh network connected directly to regional ground stations, fiber-optic backbones, and major global internet exchange points.
Government officials expect the commercial service rollout in Uzbekistan to take place before the end of 2026.
