The proposal was discussed during a visit to Benfica’s headquarters in Lisbon by Bekzod Mamatkulov, President of the Uzbekistan Futsal Association. He met with the club’s Vice-President, Tomás Barroso, as part of a working trip to Portugal.
The two sides also discussed exchanges of expertise between futsal clubs, joint training camps and opportunities for Uzbek coaches to gain experience at European clubs.
The proposed academy would focus on identifying promising young players, developing their technical skills and preparing them for professional futsal. Cooperation would also cover coaching methods and the adoption of modern training practices.
Benfica specialists are expected to visit Uzbekistan for further talks. The visit is intended to help work out practical ways to identify promising players, improve their performance and give them opportunities to gain experience at Portuguese clubs.
