“Lung damage is not observed in 90-95% of incoming patients” – Director of Zangiota hospital

Anvar Khusanov, director of Zangiota Infectious Diseases Hospital No. 1, said the new strain of the coronavirus was slightly milder than previous delta and British strains.

According to the Health Ministry press service, more than 1,300 coronavirus patients are currently being treated at the facility. The number of patients admitted to the hospital since January 5 has also increased sharply due to the high number of cases among the population in recent days.

“Currently, an average of 300-400 patients a day come to our institution, of which 200-300 are hospitalized. However, by the 4th of January, there were 65-70 calls a day, of which 70% were hospitalized,” he said.

It is noted that the majority of those who apply to the institution today are mildly ill patients. In them, the disease is manifested mainly by simple respiratory symptoms such as fever, joint pain, headache, weakness.

“Furthermore, 90-95% of patients coming to the hospital since January 5 do not have a decrease in saturation and lung damage. Serious complications of the virus are relatively rare. There is almost no damage to the lungs,” Anvar Khusanov said.

The duration of treatment has also been reduced to an average of 5 days. The need for antiviral drugs Remdesivir and other drugs used to treat critically ill patients has decreased.

“As a result, the number of patients currently being treated in the 190-bed intensive care unit has been significantly reduced. However, in the summer of last year, when the delta strain was on the rise, the number of patients in intensive care units was much higher,” he said.

Therefore, the director of Zangiota Infectious Diseases Hospital No. 1 called on everyone, as a practicing physician who directly treats coronavirus patients, to be vaccinated against the disease and to receive booster doses.
