Uzbekistan stockpiles about 627,000 tons of agricultural products for winter and spring months

In order to provide the population of the republic with basic foodstuffs in the spring of 2022, a total of 626.6 thousand tons of agricultural products have been stockpiled in Uzbekistan, the head of the information service of the Agriculture Ministry Nigora Khodjayeva announced at an AIMC briefing.

“In order to provide the population of the republic with the main types of food products in the winter of 2021 and spring of 2022, a total of 626.6 thousand tons of agricultural products, including 294 thousand tons of potatoes, 86.8 thousand tons of onions, 163.6 thousand tons of carrots and 82.1 thousand tons of rice have been stored,” Khodjayeva said.

It was noted that fairs of agricultural products have been organized in 12 major dekhkan markets in Tashkent, and conditions have been created for the sale of agricultural products brought to the markets by the regions – free racks, weighing machines, storage warehouses.

These market fairs will last until May 1, 2022, and 75.5 thousand tons of products are expected to be delivered to markets.

It is also estimated that in 2022, the regions will supply 12 types of products:

  • Flour and flour products – 4,097 thousand tons (supply by 92.3%);
  • Rice – 485.7 thousand tons (134.6%);
  • Vegetables – 12.1 million tons (275%);
  • Carrot – 2.4 million tons (190%);
  • Potatoes – 4.2 million tons (161%);
  • Melons – 3.2 million tons (350%);
  • Fruit – 3.2 million tons (107%);
  • Grapes – 1.7 million tons (176%);
  • Vegetable oil – 375 thousand tons (78%);
  • Meat (live weight) – 1.5 million tons (95.6%);
  • Milk – 12.4 million tons (83.6%);
  • Eggs – 8.4 million units (94.1%);
  • Fish – 517 thousand tons (105%).

40 districts of the country specialize in potato growing, including 23 seed potatoes. $21.7 million (preferential loan) was allocated for the import of 47.2 thousand tons of potatoes. In addition, 9 clusters have been established in the potato sector, which are allocated 3.6 thousand hectares of land. There are 5 in vitro laboratories in the country.

According to the medical standards established in Uzbekistan (52.6 kg), the annual demand of the population for potatoes is 1.9 million tons. According to the WHO standard (96.7 kg), the consumption of the population is almost twice as high.
