Uzbekistan to halve customs duty rates on car imports
Customs duty rates on car imports will be reduced from 30% to 15%.
This has been announced during a videoconference meeting, which took place today, February 14, chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The head of state instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to prepare a draft resolution on reducing the rate of customs duties on car imports from 30% to 15% within three days.
Earlier, the President instructed to reduce the prepayment for UzAuto Motors cars.
On February 11, at a meeting on road safety, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that citizens of Uzbekistan were unhappy with the delay in car deliveries.
“People are unhappy. They say: “We paid, give us the car”. Thank God, our economy is developing, the demand for cars is growing,” the head of state said.
It should be recalled that UzAuto Motors decided to suspend the acceptance of new applications for the sale of Nexia, Spark, Cobalt, Lacetti cars until February 1, 2022 due to logistical problems.
In mid-January, it became known that due to interruptions in the supply of components, the company will produce Chevrolet Lacetti and Cobalt cars without car radios.
The other day, reports were made public that government was developing proposals to reduce the amount of prepayment in contracts for the supply of UzAuto Motors cars.
Social networks also disseminated information about the fact that Uzavtosanoat took the initiative of a sharp (up to 50%) reduction in the rates of customs duties on car imports. However, the press service of the company refuted these reports.
Later, the deputy head of Uzavtosanoat Azizbek Shukurov agreed with the opinion of economist Yuliy Yusupov that Uzbekistan has high rates of customs duties on car imports.
