Akmal Saidov submits sixth report on gender policy to the UN Committee

On February 15-16, Uzbekistan, within the framework of the 81st session of the UN Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, presented the sixth periodic report on gender policy, Dunyo IA correspondent reports.

According to the press service of the lower house of parliament, the sixth report was presented by the First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis, director of the National Center for Human Rights (NCHR) Akmal Saidov. He noted that the document prepared by the NCHR within the framework of the implementation of the Convention on Human Rights covers the period from 2016 to the present. More than thirty state bodies and more than twenty civil society institutions took part in the preparation of this report.

Akmal Saidov noted that creating conditions for achieving gender equality, ensuring the rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of women, strengthening their role in public and state life is one of the priority areas for the development of New Uzbekistan.

The sixth periodic report provides detailed information on the implementation of the norms of the convention, the latest changes made to the legislation of Uzbekistan in this direction, and achievements in raising the status of women and girls. Particular attention is paid to the implementation of state policy in the field of non-discrimination of women, raising the status of women and girls in society by the government of Uzbekistan, accelerating the establishment of practical equality between men and women, and eradicating all forms of trafficking in women. Information is provided on the measures taken to prevent discrimination against women in matters of marriage and family relations, political activity and social life, education, employment, healthcare, socio-economic, international cooperation.

It should be recalled that the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women was adopted by the UN General Assembly on December 18, 1979. Uzbekistan joined it on May 6, 1995.

The 81st session of the UN Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women takes place from February 7 to 25 in a hybrid form.
