54 people detained in Navoi for illegal gold mining 

Seven groups of illegal gold miners were detained in the area of   the abandoned Lolazor gold mine in the Kanimekh district, Navoi region. Earlier, in the same mine, 4 people died as a result of soil collapse.

As Kun.uz was informed by the information service of the Navoi regional DIA, on February 22, law enforcement officers, together with the National Guard and the Ministry of Emergency Situations, carried out an operative event at an abandoned mine. During the event, 54 people in 7 groups were detained for illegal gold mining. These are residents of the Khatyrchi and Navbakhor districts of the Navoi region, Narpay and Pakhtachi districts of the Samarkand region, Shafirkan and Vobkent districts of the Bukhara region.

It was established that these persons were engaged in mining without a license. Law enforcement officials seized 4 generators, 7 jackhammers, 2 Ford cars, 2 tons of rock and sand with gold particles, as well as various equipment used during excavations, a stone crusher.

It is noted that during the pre-investigation check, the identities of 54 citizens were identified, explanatory notes were taken from them, they were fingerprinted. 2 tons of gold-bearing soil were transferred to the NMMC laboratory to determine the amount of gold in it.

Earlier, the corpses of 5 residents of Shafirkan were found in the sand at a depth of 30 meters, having been buried there for 10 days.

On November 13, 2021, a soil collapse in an abandoned mine killed 4 people.
