Drunk drivers may be punished with deprivation of right to drive for 5 years 

According to the current legislation, drunk drivers are deprived of the right to drive for a period of 1.5 to 3 years.

At an expanded meeting of the Committee on Defense and Security in the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis, Olimjon Saidov, head of the MIA Public Security Department, said that the current legislation is expected to be amended to provide for 5 years of deprivation of right to drive for drunk driving.

“Currently, 8 normative legal acts are being prepared, including two draft laws, one presidential decree and four government resolutions. In particular, a draft presidential decree “On measures to ensure human safety on roads and dramatically reduce the number of deaths to a qualitatively new level” is being developed.

According to it, the Administrative Responsibility Code will be amended to provide for a period of 5 years deprivation of the right to drive for drunk driving. According to the current procedure, drivers who drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be deprived of the right to drive for a period of 1.5 to 3 years.

At the same time, a fine of 50 BCAs for drunk driving is strictly defined. The current fine is 40 BCAs,” Olimjon Saidov said.
