On behalf of the governments of the two countries, the document was signed by Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the UN Bakhtiyor Ibragimov and Permanent Representative of Antigua and Barbuda to the UN Walton Alfonso Webson.

Antigua and Barbuda became the 141st country with which Uzbekistan established diplomatic relations. It is located in the western part of the Caribbean Sea, is a member of the British Commonwealth, as well as the Organization of American States.

The parties confirmed their interest in strengthening joint cooperation within the framework of international organizations, including the UN and its specialized agencies. An agreement was reached to maintain bilateral contacts to search for mutually beneficial areas of cooperation.

The signing of the document was an important step to enhance the interaction of Uzbekistan with the countries of the Caribbean.

After the signing ceremony of the Joint Communiqué, Walton Alfonso Webson made a brief statement:

“It is a great honor and privilege for me to represent the government of Antigua and Barbuda, and to be here with the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to sign this agreement. Our government is very excited about expanding relationships around the world and Uzbekistan is a global member with which we have expanded a new family.

We believe that this agreement will help strengthen our relationship in the social and cultural dimensions between the peoples of Antigua and Barbuda and Uzbekistan, and hopefully also economically, as we work together for global solidarity and global peace”.

It should be recalled that on May 10, 2022, Uzbekistan established diplomatic relations with Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
