Uzbekistan expresses condolences to Afghanistan over human casualties following major earthquake
A powerful earthquake claimed the lives of over 1,000 Afghans.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan is sad to hear about the major earthquake that caused numerous casualties and injuries and a significant damage in the Afghan province of Paktika and the city of Khost,” the statement says.
The ministry noted that the government of Uzbekistan is ready to provide all possible assistance to the fraternal people of Afghanistan in overcoming the tragic consequences of the natural disaster as soon as possible.
An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 occurred on the night of June 22, 44 kilometers from the city of Khost.
According to the latest data, the number of victims of the earthquake exceeded 1 thousand people, and at least 1.5 thousand people were injured. Search and rescue operations continue in the disaster zone.
