TikTok and Twitter expected to be unblocked in Uzbekistan
The blocked social networks Twitter, TikTok and VKontakte in Uzbekistan are expected to be unblocked. This information was confirmed by a representative of the ICT Ministry.
In the summer of 2021, Uzbekistan imposed restrictions on TikTok, Twitter, Skype, WeChat and Vkontakte.
The restriction was caused by the fact that these networks do not store personal information of Uzbek citizens on servers located in Uzbekistan. The law, which came into force on April 16, 2021, set out such a requirement.
Although the decision has been widely criticized by social media activists, the bloc remains unopened.
For information, a delegation led by ICT Minister Sherzod Shermatov is currently in the United States and is negotiating with major IT companies in Silicon Valley.
Earlier, officials said the constitution should include the right of everyone to use the Internet.
