MFA provides additional information on violation of Uzbekistan’s state border by Afghan citizens
2 people died in the incident, 6 people were injured. According to the information of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, it was noted that “some violations were committed on both sides that caused tension in this region” during negotiations between the authorized representatives of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan regarding the incident.

On August 21, a group of Afghan citizens illegally crossed the state border of Uzbekistan and moved by boat to the “Prophet island” area in Surkhandarya region. They resisted soldiers of the Uzbek border troops who arrived at the area.
According to the MFA press service of Uzbekistan, 2 people died and 6 people were injured in the incident.
In connection with the incident, negotiations were held between the authorized representatives of the special services of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan. In it, the Republic of Uzbekistan expressed its condolences to families of the victims.
“All the necessary medical assistance is being provided to the wounded, and the processes of preparing the detained persons for their return to their homeland are being completed,” the report reads.
It is noted that during the meeting, “some violations were committed by both sides that caused tension in this area”. The incident is currently under investigation.
“Both sides confirmed that they are in favor of peace, that all issues will be resolved on the basis of consideration of mutual interests and respect for each other,” the MFA said in its statement.
Earlier, the SSS Border Troops reported that all those who violated the state border of Uzbekistan – 24 people – were arrested.
As it turned out, they aimed to illegally take the root of the licorice plant, which grows in large quantities in the border area of Uzbekistan.
