Uzbekistan sends over 26 tons of farm seeds to Afghanistan as humanitarian aid
As part of its commitment to fostering friendly relations with neighboring countries, Uzbekistan has delivered over 26 tons of agricultural seeds to Afghanistan as humanitarian aid, the Ministry of Agriculture reported.
The shipment includes 5 tons of cotton seeds, 20 tons of rice, more than 50 kilograms of mung beans, and high-quality seeds for various melons and vegetables.
According to the Ministry, an official delegation led by Afghanistan’s Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock recently visited Uzbekistan. During the visit, the Afghan delegation toured agricultural enterprises, agro-clusters, and research centers in Tashkent and Samarkand regions, gaining insight into Uzbekistan’s agricultural advancements.
To further strengthen bilateral cooperation, the Uzbek Ministry of Agriculture provided Afghan farmers and agricultural institutions with certified, climate-resilient seeds. Specifically, the aid included:
- 5 tons of cotton seeds (suitable for planting on 200 hectares),
- 20 tons of rice (sufficient for 100 hectares),
- 500 kilograms of mung beans (enough for 25 hectares),
- 187 kilograms of vegetable seeds,
- and 600 kilograms of selected, high-quality melon and gourd seeds.
“This practical assistance is expected to support food security in Afghanistan, increase rural employment, and promote the introduction of agricultural innovations,” the statement read.
This is not the first time Uzbekistan has extended humanitarian support to Afghanistan. In March, the country sent nearly 200 tons of aid, which included flour, pasta, vegetable oil, sugar, and other essential food supplies.
