Residents of Tyumen attempt to smuggle jewelry worth 13.8 million rubles into Uzbekistan
Residents of Tyumen were detained at the Roschino airport, who were trying to smuggle jewelry worth 13.8 million rubles (about $230.9 thousand) to Tashkent.
A criminal case has been initiated against them under Part 2 of Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (smuggling of strategically important resources). They may be sentenced to 10 years in prison, Kommersant reports.
It has been established that the inhabitants of Tyumen attracted people who made jewelry with inserts of diamonds, sapphires, emeralds and other precious stones. For the export of 999 gold, a 300-gram cross was cast.
Suspects of smuggling were detained while passing customs control.
One of the smugglers was detained. An investigation is underway.
