SSS foils attempt to smuggle nearly 2 kg of gold to Dubai
Security officers at Tashkent International Airport have intercepted an outbound passenger attempting to illegally transport nearly two kilograms of gold to Dubai by concealing the precious metal within the structural frame of a suitcase.
The gold was discovered during a joint operation conducted by the State Security Service and officers from the Tashkent-Aero specialized customs complex. Acting on operational leads, law enforcement personnel selected a passenger booked on a flight from Tashkent to Dubai for a comprehensive luggage inspection.
A thorough scan and physical search of the luggage belonging to the traveler – a 46-year-old man originally from Andijan region and currently residing in Tashkent – revealed 1 kilogram and 923 grams of gold. The contraband had been meticulously flattened into specialized plates and integrated directly into the internal support rods and structural lining of the suitcase to evade standard customs detection.
The follow-up investigation quickly linked a second suspect to the smuggling attempt. Investigators identified a 34-year-old accomplice from the Tashkent region who had a prior criminal record, having been previously convicted under Article 182 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which covers violations of customs legislation.

Both individuals have been detained, and security officials are conducting pre-trial investigative proceedings to establish the origin of the gold and determine whether a larger transnational smuggling ring was involved.
