More than 80 events in all fields held under Uzbekistan’s chairmanship in SCO
The transfer of the chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to Uzbekistan in 2021-2022 was a logical continuation of the intensive and open foreign policy implemented in the next 6 years, Anvar Nosirov, director of the International Institute of Central Asia, writes.
It was reported that Uzbekistan held more than 80 events in all spheres of cooperation during the SCO chairmanship. It is planned to present more than 30 documents for signing at the upcoming summit.
“One of the main goals of the Samarkand summit is the issue of further expansion of the SCO family. Within the framework of the Council of heads of state, a memorandum on Iran’s obligations to obtain SCO membership is expected to be signed. This will be an important step in the implementation of the decision to start the procedure of accepting Iran as a full member last year,” he wrote.
In addition, a decision will be made to expand the membership of SCO observer and dialogue partner countries. At the summit, it is planned to sign documents on establishing cooperation between the SCO and a number of international and regional organizations.
Another document being prepared for adoption is a comprehensive plan for the implementation of the agreement on long-term good neighborliness, friendship and cooperation between the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in 2023-2027.
The project of the plan involved the directions of cooperation implemented in all areas within the organization and currently includes about 120 measures. The main emphasis is on the development of trade-economic relations.
