Uzbekistan’s consul general says Tashkent could become a transit hub for Russians

Uzbekistan can become a new transit hub for travelers from the Urals Federal District and all of Russia, replacing Istanbul, through which citizens are used to flying at present.

This opinion was expressed on Sunday by the Consul General of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Yekaterinburg Abdusalom Khatamov, TASS reports.

“Uzbekistan can become both one of the most popular holiday destinations for Russian tourists and a new transit hub, replacing Istanbul, through which travelers are used to flying to different countries,” he said.

According to him, at present there are direct flights from the Ural cities of Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk and Tyumen to the Uzbek cities of Bukhara, Navoi, Samarkand, Tashkent and Namangan. In addition, the issue of opening direct flights between Nizhnevartovsk and Fergana is being actively worked out, Khatamov noted.

The Consul General said that as of the beginning of 2021, the number of citizens of Uzbekistan in the Ural Federal District amounted to more than 215 thousand people. At present, this indicator is unchanged, since there is no strong outflow or inflow of citizens of Uzbekistan engaged in temporary labor activity in the Urals.

“At the same time, today a project is being implemented to attract labor force from Uzbekistan in an organized manner at the request of Ural employers. To implement this project, there are monocenters in Uzbekistan that provide citizens of Uzbekistan with the opportunity to study foreign languages   and working specialties free of charge at the expense of the state budget before going abroad,” Khatamov added.
