The Constitutional Commission of Uzbekistan proposes to change Article 67 of the Basic Law.

The current version of this article reads as follows:

“The mass media are free and work according to the law. They are responsible for the correctness of the information.

Censorship is not allowed”.

Reportedly, it is proposed to add the following addition to this article:

“The state guarantees the freedom of media activity, their rights to seek, receive, use and disseminate information.

Obstructing or interfering with the activities of mass media and journalists is a cause of liability according to the law.

Mass media are responsible for the correctness of the information they present.

For information, although a number of laws in Uzbekistan mention the protection of journalists from pressures and threats, the codes do not include responsibility for this.

As Kun.uz wrote earlier, the issue of imposing punishment for opposition to the activities of media workers is constantly raised against the background of a number of events, but there is no positive solution. As a result, they continue to be obstructed.
