Better Cotton Initiative to open representative office in Uzbekistan

The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI), a non-governmental non-profit organization, certifies the entire production process “from the cotton field to the sale”. The organization has over a thousand members. In particular, these are H&M, Gap, IKEA, Levi Strauss, Zara, Hugo Boss, Adidas and Puma, as well as more than 80 of the world’s largest brands.

On October 14, Head of the Senate, Chairperson of the National Commission on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and Forced Labor, Tanzila Narbayeva met with Rachel Beckett, manager of the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI), a non-governmental non-profit organization.

During the meeting, prospects for expanding cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Better Cotton Initiative were discussed. In particular, an agreement was reached on the introduction of international standards for Uzbek cotton clusters, their compliance with licensing and, among the first, the introduction of a tracking system for domestic textiles.

In addition, the parties agreed to open a BCI representative office in Tashkent in the near future.
