Ministry of Transport comments on “flooding” cases in Tashkent
Due to rainy weather in Uzbekistan, mudflows and floods have been observed in the regions for several days. Rainwater flooded a number of districts of the capital. So what is the cause of floods and how can they be prevented?
As the director of the project office for integrated development of the transport system of the city of Tashkent under the Ministry of Transport Murod Obidov told a Kun.uz correspondent, there are 2 factors due to which Tashkent floods.
Murod Obidov, director of the project office for integrated development of the Tashkent city transport system under the Ministry of Transport:
“Firstly, over the past 10 years, there have been no heavy rains in the capital. These rains have occurred recently.
The second factor is that certain services and departments that manage the city for many years did not pay attention to the sewer systems of the city in time, and buildings and various other objects were built on the watercourses through which these systems pass. So the whole system collapses. That is, if the flowing water does not flow away, it will still seep somewhere.
Now I can’t say that the cause is the uncovered trays, it’s just that the drainage system was broken somewhere and buildings were built over it. And these buildings were not built in the next 5 years. They were built much earlier. If you raise this topic, you will have to go back 10-15 years ago. In fact, this is a separate big topic, and I think that it should be considered in the same way as the transport system,” he said.
