Sudden wind shift disrupts flight operations in Tashkent
On June 18, flight operations at Tashkent Airport were temporarily restricted due to a sudden wind shear event, which made it unsafe to land or take off for a period of time.

As a result, several passenger flights were unable to land in the capital and were rerouted to alternate airports.
Flight HH-2232 operated by Qanot Sharq, en route from Cam Ranh, was redirected to Samarkand instead of its scheduled arrival in Tashkent at 16:35. Similarly, Uzbekistan Airways flight HY-9732 from Makhachkala landed in Samarkand instead of Tashkent (scheduled arrival time: 16:42). Another Uzbekistan Airways flight, HY-424 from Delhi, expected in Tashkent at 16:51, was also diverted to the same alternate airfield. Additionally, Air Astana’s flight KC-123 from Astana changed course and landed in Turkistan.
According to airport officials, the situation had stabilized by 16:30, and the restrictions on takeoffs and landings were lifted. Tashkent Airport resumed normal operations, and the diverted aircraft are now preparing to fly to the capital.
Wind shear refers to a sudden change in wind speed or direction over a short distance, which can occur both horizontally and vertically. It poses a potential hazard during takeoff and landing phases of flight.
