Ranking of most expensive cities in the world announced, Tashkent among five cheapest cities

The Economist published a ranking of the world’s most expensive cities in 2022, comparing the prices of 200 products and services in 172 major cities. It listed New York and Singapore as the most expensive cities, and Damascus and Tripoli as the cheapest.

The Economist Intelligence Unit of the Economist Group has published the list of the world’s cheapest and most expensive cities to live in in 2022.

The authors of the study compared 200 goods and services in 172 major cities in US dollars. In 2022, prices in these cities increased by an average of 8.1%. This indicator is the highest level of inflation recorded in the last 22 years.

According to the results of the research, New York and Singapore were recognized as one of the most expensive cities in the world. New York tops the list for the first time, while Singapore has topped the list for the eighth time in the past decade. In third place is the Israeli city of Tel Aviv, which was named the most expensive city in the world last year.

Along with New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco are among the top ten most expensive cities. Also, another 22 US cities rose in the ranking compared to last year due to the rapid growth of prices and strengthening of the dollar. Six of them (Atlanta, Charlotte, Indianapolis, San Diego, Portland, and Boston) were among the ten cities that showed the biggest jumps in the rankings.

Tashkent, on the other hand, took the 168th place in the ranking of the most expensive cities, slightly improving its position compared to last year.

According to Numbeo, one of the world’s largest online databases, a family of 4 living in Uzbekistan can live comfortably on $1,431.42 a month without paying rent. For one person, this price becomes $394.10.
