Uzbekistan ranks 123rd globally, second in Central Asia in new passport index

Uzbekistan has been positioned at 123rd internationally in the newly released Global Passport Index 2026, published by the consulting firm Global Citizen Solutions. Unlike traditional passport rankings that focus exclusively on travel privileges, this comprehensive index evaluates countries across three core parameters: travel mobility, investment attractiveness, and overall quality of life.

European nations heavily dominate the upper echelons of the index, claiming nine out of the top ten spots. Singapore is the sole representative outside of Europe to secure a position among the elite tier, anchoring the top ten in 10th place. Sweden leads the global ranking due to its balanced performance across all metrics, ranking 11th in mobility, ninth in investment potential, and second in quality of life. Switzerland follows in second place globally, with Finland, Germany, and the Netherlands completing the top five. Denmark, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and Norway occupy the remaining top positions alongside Singapore.

Within Central Asia, Kazakhstan leads the region by securing 107th place globally. Uzbekistan follows in second place regionally at 123rd, ahead of Kyrgyzstan at 127th, Tajikistan at 140th, and Turkmenistan at 144th. Afghanistan sits at the bottom of the global assessment, concluding the index at 197th place. A closer look at Uzbekistan’s performance across the individual sub-indices shows that the country ranks 129th for passport mobility, 89th for investment attractiveness, and 119th for quality of life.

The multi-dimensional approach of the Global Passport Index offers a broader perspective compared to the Henley Passport Index, which strictly measures the number of destinations passport holders can access without a prior visa. In the Henley ranking published in April 2026, Uzbekistan had climbed to 74th place, up from the 75th position it occupied at the start of the year. In that mobility-focused report, the Kazakh passport similarly maintained the regional lead by ranking 61st globally.
