Supreme Court to consider the case regarding acquittal of 173 victims of Soviet-era repression in appellate procedure
The Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan will consider the criminal cases related to other persons who were repressed during the Soviet era and were not rehabilitated in the appellate procedure.
According to the information of the Supreme Court press service, suggestions were made regarding the vindication of the names of the repression victims, who were identified by the Republican working group during the implementation of scientific and research work, and were not rehabilitated for some reasons.
These proposals will be presented at the open hearings of the Criminal Trial Panel of the Supreme Court on December 19, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. in the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Criminal cases of 173 persons, who were victims of repression during the Soviet regime and not been acquitted so far, will be reviewed in the appellate procedure.
In accordance with the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated October 8, 2020 “On additional measures to further study the heritage of repression victims and perpetuate their memory”, a Republican working group was established to further study the heritage of repression victims, organize and coordinate work to perpetuate their memory.
All mass media representatives, independent journalists and bloggers are invited to open court sessions.
At the beginning of the year, based on the protests introduced by the Deputy Prosecutor General Svetlana Artikova, 6 criminal cases were examined under the chairmanship of the Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court Ikrom Muslimov, and in the end, a total of 120 persons were acquitted based on Article 83 of the Criminal Procedural Code due to the lack of criminal elements in their actions.
