CEC begins preparations for early presidential elections in Uzbekistan
By the decree of Shavkat Mirziyoyev, early presidential elections are scheduled for July 9 this year.
The Central Election Commission (CEC) recalled that, in accordance with Article 128 of the Constitution, the president has the right to call early elections.
Also, on the basis of Article 66 of the Electoral Code, when calling early presidential elections, elections are held within two months. At the same time, the deadlines for the implementation of measures for the preparation and conduct of elections are established by the CEC.
The Electoral Code also defines the norms on the announcement of the start of the election campaign by the CEC. Based on the requirements of the law, the CEC has begun preparations for early presidential elections.
“In this regard, a meeting of the CEC will be held on May 10, 2023 at 11:00. The meeting will consider the issues of announcing the start of the election campaign for early presidential elections and preparations for the elections, as well as the implementation of measures to conduct them,” the CEC report reads.
On May 8, Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced early presidential elections in Uzbekistan. The head of state told why he refuses the remaining three and a half years of the presidential term on his own initiative.
Earlier, it was also reported that by the decree of Shavkat Mirziyoyev, early presidential elections in Uzbekistan were scheduled for July 9, 2023.
