Appellate court continues considering the case of a student who was imprisoned for 3 years for sending nasheed
On July 14, the last court session was held at the appellate instance of the Tashkent regional court on the case of Jahongir Ulugmurodov, who was sentenced to 3 years in prison for sending a nasheed to his classmates. According to the Kun.uz reporter, the decision of the appellate court is expected on July 17.
After a lengthy court investigation, the parties entered into negotiations. Relatives and lawyers of Jahongir Ulugmurodov are asking the court to cancel the sentence and release the young man immediately in the courtroom itself.
It is known that the head of the department of ensuring prosecutor’s authority in criminal courts of the Tashkent regional prosecutor’s office, Gayrat Tulakov, is advancing the state accusation in the court.
According to the Kun.uz reporter, who is participating in the court proceedings, the next court session will be held on July 17. On this day, the court is expected to enter the consultation room to issue a decision.
Despite the fact that the court proceedings are open, the judge did not allow the proceedings to be filmed due to the prosecutor’s refusal to give consent.
It should be recalled that on May 8, 2023, 21-year-old Jahongir Ulugmurodov, a 2nd-year student of the Tashkent State University of Economics, was sentenced to 3 years in prison.
He is accused of sending a link to a religious song on YouTube in 2022 to a Telegram group of classmates. Recently, the number of young people who have been arrested on such “accusations” is increasing. This raises various questions and concerns in the public.
