More than 160 measles cases detected in Uzbekistan in July

As of July, measles was detected in 164 citizens of Uzbekistan, the Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health Committee reported.

During the current month, blood samples from 306 patients with suspected measles were sent to the virology laboratory. 164 citizens had a positive result.

As noted in the Committee, cases of measles in Uzbekistan are mainly detected among citizens who have been in contact with measles patients abroad.

According to the World Health Organization, the epidemiological situation for measles in the world and the European Region worsened in 2023 due to massive cases of refusal to vaccinate.

Currently, 23,070 cases of measles have been registered in Ukraine, 4,954 in Serbia, 2,576 in France, 2,476 in Greece, 2,020 in Italy, 1,396 in Russia, and 1,128 in Georgia.

In neighboring countries, cases of measles have also been registered: in Afghanistan - 2105 cases, in Tajikistan - more than 300, in Kazakhstan - 169.

At present, the measles epidemiological situation in Uzbekistan is under control. Citizens who have been in contact with persons with suspected measles are covered by preventive vaccination based on epidemiological recommendations.

Measles is an acute viral disease characterized by high body temperature, intoxication, cough, runny nose, conjunctivitis and rash. Measles is dangerous with severe complications, pneumonia, convulsions, inflammation of the brain. It is transmitted by airborne droplets.
