President rejects the law which provided for new penalties for illegal felling of trees

The President rejected a law that would provide new penalties for offenses related to illegal cutting of trees, the Vice-Speaker of the Legislative Chamber Alisher Kadirov reported.

He noted that a fine of $100,000 was set for illegal felling of trees in the United States, $150,000 – in France and $8 million – in Saudi Arabia.

“The President rejected legislation that would have provided for a fine of up to $1,000 for this act. The objection is correct, we will review the law,” Alisher Kadirov said.

It should be recalled that at the 40th plenary session of the Senate in May, a law was approved on amending the Administrative Responsibility Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, according to which it was proposed to establish a fine for citizens in the amount of from 10 to 15 BCAs (from 3.3 million to 4.95 million soums), for officials – from 15 to 20 BCAs (from 4.95 million soums to 6.6 million soums).

Currently, this fine for citizens ranges from 5 to 10 BCAs (from 1.65 million to 3.3 million soums), for officials – from 10 to 15 BCAs (from 3.3 million to 4.95 million soums).
